Crack Barr - Crack stitch

Cracking in masonry can be the result of many different building defects and the original cause of the problem should be identified by a Chartered Structural Engineer.

Once the original problem has been rectified the masonry will require either rebuilding or repairing by stitching across the crack.

It is essential to use a product with high tensile strength for this remedial application and  Basalt Fibre Reinforced Polymer Rods or BARRs are just the job. BARRs are 3 x stronger and 4 x times lighter than steel, have minimal expansion and contraction forces and are easily installed into mortar joints.

The mortar joint is raked out 500mm either side of the crack to a depth of 30mm and the 6mm BARR is embedded into a resin or grout and the mortar joint is then repointed to hide the fact that any remedial work has been undertaken.

A 6mm BARR has a higher tensile strength than a 8mm stainless steel allowing the installer to use a 6mm BARR in most applications.

Crack Barrs embodied carbon 4 x less than steel making it the green alternative. EPD Available

Standard length 1000mm
